PRAISE TO SOFTNESS
Hall 36 - C18
The great artist and designer Gaetano Pesce said that soft materials are the expression of our liquid time, in which values change constantly and quickly. So great that no comparisons can be made, Pesce has pioneered the use of polyurethanes, elastomers and silicones in Italian design over the decades. In particular, silicones have been the focus of his activity in the last years of life: he designed the first lamp with a silicone shade around 2004, followed by a large series of lamps and jewelry.
In recent years, silicone has become an increasingly adopted material in the world of lighting, fashion and design, proving that in our fluid era we choose softness with greater conviction, perhaps as an antidote to the harshness of the wars that surround us.
Softness is perceived with touch, which is the most complex of our senses. It is also the first one that introduces us to the world and the last one that leaves us.
Other key players in softness are elastomers, especially thermoplastics, whose family has become gradually numerous in recent years. However, elastomers are able to show off hardness as well as toughness.
“Fare morbido, elastomeri alla ribalta” is a collection of soft and hard creations intended for design and industry, the result of a search for objects capable of conveying enchanting and strong emotions and sensations to visitors, which will be exhibited at the Materioteca® booth (Hall 36 C18) at Mecspe 2025 in Bologna.
